Southway Internships
Southway offers a rigorous internship program for candidates to apply knowledge gained in the classroom. Our highly sought-after Summer Internship Program is a 12-week (May to August) hands-on learning experience. You will rotate through three core roles in the construction management industry:
- Field operations and subcontractor supervision
- Process, documentation, and scheduling
- Preconstruction services/cost estimating
- Quality control reviews
- Quality take-off and estimating
- Safety on project sites
- Coordination with subcontractors
- General on-site construction labor, and more
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or Project Management; strong interest in pursuing a career in construction management
- Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving techniques
- Must have reliable transport to travel to various projects

Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of construction projects from planning to implementation.
- Allocate resources for assigned projects.
- Supervise onsite personnel and subcontractors.
- Interface with project inspectors, contractors, architects, engineers, city and county officials, and clients.
- Negotiate with contractors to receive reasonable order costs.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to original plans and specifications.
Qualifications
- 10 – 15 years of progressively responsible experience in ground-up construction and/or renovations and restoration projects with a general contractor as a superintendent.
- 5 – 10 years of experience as a LEAD Project Manager on professional construction sites on at least 3 projects as follows:
- $10M + and/or $20M+ single project value; new construction &/or major renovation experience a plus.
- Commercial Construction +25,000SF and/or +50,000 SF OR
- Multi-family construction +60,000 SF (+50 units) and/or +100,000 SF (+100 units)
- Advanced construction knowledge, including means and methods.
- Ability to effectively lead on-site project personnel to ensure completion of the project on time and within budget.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Familiarity with construction management software; experience with Procore preferred.
- Strong leadership qualities and negotiation skills.
- Deadline and detail-oriented.
- Must be able to successfully meet the requirements of a pre-employment selection assessment (CMA Assessment), and background check.

Southway Builders is recruiting for Construction Superintendents to successfully execute assigned projects. The ideal candidate will coordinate all site construction activities and supervise all field personnel and subcontractors as required to successfully complete the project from start to finish, ensuring the safe and on-time execution of the physical construction work. This includes project planning, scheduling, quality control, logistics management, jobsite safety, and implementation.
- Oversee all aspects of construction project from planning to implementation.
- Supervise onsite personnel and subcontractors.
- Monitor, direct, and coordinate activities of inspectors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, city and county officials, and clients to ensure assigned projects are kept on schedule and within budget while meeting client’s needs and delivering a quality project.
- Manage General Conditions line items to the budget (general labor, small tools, field office, facilities, supplies, etc.).
- Manage subcontractors to accept reasonable change order requests and associated costs.
- Identify potential issues and ensure timely decisions are made. Notify in writing as required to clearly establish Southway’s defensible position regarding delays, back charges, deficient work, safety, etc.
- Work within schedules and plans of operation for construction projects in close consultation with the Project Manager.
- Monitor daily scheduled activities. Prepare for and lead a weekly coordination meeting for subcontractors and vendors and provide a three-week look-ahead schedule and monitor daily for conformance.
- On a daily basis, inspect completed work for quality issues and compliance with contract documents. Create trade specific quality control checklists.
- Attend progress meetings with owners and be prepared to address the project progress and issues.
- Ensure proper document record keeping.
- Effectively develops, mentors, supervises, and trains other SBI team members
- Maintain high standards of quality to adhere to original plans and specifications.
