Lexington Market, Baltimore’s iconic public marketplace founded in 1782, recently celebrated its grand reopening in Fall 2022 after a comprehensive renovation. The market’s new design consolidates two of its original sheds into a 60,000-square-foot building that includes stalls for fresh and prepared food, entertainment spaces, and communal seating. The upgraded exterior features a pedestrian promenade suitable for hosting outdoor concerts. Despite the extensive work, the market remained open throughout construction, allowing locals and visitors alike to continue enjoying Baltimore culinary staples such as crab cakes and Berger’s cookies. The project, led by Southway, BCT Architects, and Seawall Development, marks a vital chapter in the market’s nearly 240-year history and sets the stage for its future as a vibrant community hub.
