Alexander House, a Renaissance Revival style building constructed in 1928 and renovated in 1978 for low-income seniors and persons with disabilities, underwent a resident-in-place renovation. This ten-story property in downtown Hagerstown includes over 30,000 square feet of commercial and community space, and is being renovated while remaining operational. The renovation, funded by state programs, the Capital Magnet Fund, and an Invest Hagerstown grant, includes updating air-conditioning units, windows, kitchens, baths, and fire and sprinkler systems, as well as restoring historic exterior features like masonry, limestone facades, and arched wood windows.
