Southway’s work throughout the region, including the Baltimore-Washington metro area, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware, is guided by Senior Vice President John Diehl, who leads our operations with extensive industry experience and strategic vision.

Founded in Baltimore in 1991, Southway Builders is led by a dedicated team of over 80 professionals that have managed over 7 million square feet of commercial projects and more than 10,000 multi-family units, maintaining an exemplary safety record throughout. Our mission-driven approach and commitment to quality, dependability and integrity has allowed us the opportunity to lead the work on prominent projects including Baltimore’s Lexington Market, originally founded in 1782 and relaunched in the fall of 2022; Canton Overlook, a 150-unit project to meet the housing needs of the area’s growing workforce; and The Park School, where a 14,660-square-foot addition expands their science and technology curriculum and commitment to sustainable growth.

John Diehl, SVP Northeast

Meet John Diehl, Senior Vice President, Northeast Region

John Diehl brings over 30 years of experience and expertise in construction management and leadership to Southway Builders. As Senior Vice President – Northeast, John is responsible for overseeing all construction operations between Pennsylvania and Virginia. John joined Southway in 2001, and with his strong background in commercial, multifamily, and adaptive reuse projects, he has played a pivotal role in Southway’s success. His strategic vision and commitment to excellence have been instrumental in completing impactful community projects throughout the region. John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Baltimore Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and a Board Member of the Salvation Army of Greater Maryland. He earned his BS in Engineering from the Catholic University of America, and his MBA from Loyola University in Maryland.

PARK SCHOOL

Baltimore, MD – The Park School expanded its commitment to science and engineering with a 14,660-square-foot addition that seamlessly connects the main school building with the existing athletic facility. This is the first phase in a multi-step plan aimed at modernizing and expanding the Upper School’s science and engineering spaces to support the school’s future growth.
